City Council Drops Own Ballot Question
Last week the City Council voted 6-1 to table their own Non-Binding question regarding the landfill. Voting against was City Council President Jim Dostal. The original question written by Councilors Bob Reckman, Paul Spector and Jim Dostal listed various pros and cons regarding the landfill expansion.
At the September 17th meeting, a new and shortened version of the ballot question was proposed by Paul Spector and Maureen Carney, which can be downloaded here.
We are happy with the decision by the City Council to vote against placing a competing ballot question on the November ballot. We believe that our ballot question, which was signed by 2,000 Northampton registered voters, is sufficient to gauge the public's opinion on the landfill expansion.
The question that will appear on the November 3rd ballot is as follows:
Shall the City of Northampton expand the Northampton landfill over the Barnes Aquifer?
Yes_______ No________
